Gypsum Board Ceilings

Gypsum is hydrated calcium sulfate. For false ceilings, factory-manufactured gypsum boards are screwed onto a metal framework.

• Pros: Extremely quick and clean installation. They provide a perfectly smooth, factory-finished surface. They are inherently fire-resistant.
• Cons: Difficult to mold into complex, curved designs. If a leak occurs above, the entire board may need replacing.

POP (Plaster of Paris) Ceilings

POP is available as a dry powder, which is mixed with water on-site to form a paste, then applied to a chicken mesh framework.

• Pros: Highly moldable, allowing for intricate, curved, and bespoke architectural designs. More cost-effective in certain regions.
• Cons: The installation process is messy, dusty, and time-consuming. It requires highly skilled artisans to achieve a perfectly smooth finish.

The Verdict

For modern, clean, straight-line designs, Gypsum is globally preferred due to its speed and finish. For classic, ornate, or highly curved designs, POP remains the material of choice.
