• Failed Joints: The 90-degree corner where the terrace floor meets the parapet wall is the weakest point. If an angle fillet (wata) is not properly constructed, water seeps through this joint.

Why Traditional 'China Mosaic' and Tar Fail

Decades ago, coating a roof with hot black tar or laying China Mosaic tiles was the standard. However, tar melts in summer and cracks in winter. China Mosaic is great for reflecting heat, but the joints between the small tiles eventually crack, allowing water to bypass the tiles and sit directly on the concrete slab.

5. Flood Testing: Fill the terrace with water for 48 hours to ensure zero leakage.
6. Protective Screed: Apply a layer of protective concrete screed or new tiles work over the membrane to protect it from UV rays and foot traffic.
