2 BHK Interior Design Cost Breakdown in India 2026 (Room by Room Guide)
The True Cost of Furnishing a 2BHK Flat in 2026 🛋️📊
You have finally received the keys to your new 2BHK apartment! The next huge hurdle is transforming those empty, echoey rooms into a warm, luxurious home. The Indian interior design market is incredibly fragmented. One carpenter might quote ₹4 Lakhs, while a branded interior startup might quote ₹12 Lakhs for the exact same flat.
Why is there such a massive difference? At AMS Civil Construction, we believe in radical transparency. In this guide, we will break down the exact, real-world costs of doing the interior of a standard 700 to 800 sq.ft 2BHK flat in India in 2026.
1. The 3 Tiers of Interior Design Budgets
Before we break down the rooms, you must decide which "Tier" of finishing you want.
- Budget / Economy (₹4 Lakhs to ₹6 Lakhs): Basic Laminate finish, basic wire baskets in the kitchen, normal paint, and ready-made loose furniture. No civil changes.
- Standard / Premium (₹7 Lakhs to ₹10 Lakhs) *Most Common*: High-gloss laminates or Acrylic, Tandem soft-close drawers, full false ceiling with LED profile lights, custom TV units, and premium washable paints.
- Luxury (₹12 Lakhs to ₹20+ Lakhs): PU paint or Lacquered glass finishes, Italian marble wall paneling, imported Blum hardware, smart home lighting, and plush custom upholstery.
*The breakdown below assumes a **Standard/Premium** budget for a typical middle-class Indian family.*
2. Room-by-Room Cost Breakdown
A. Modular Kitchen (Estimated Cost: ₹1,20,000 – ₹1,80,000)
The kitchen is the most expensive and technically complex part of the house.
- Woodwork (Carcass & Shutters): BWP (Waterproof) Plywood with High-Gloss Acrylic or Laminate finish.
- Hardware & Accessories: Hettich/Hafele soft-close hinges, 6-8 Tandem drawers, pull-out pantry, and SS baskets.
- Countertop & Dado: If the builder hasn't provided a good platform, adding a Quartz countertop and premium backsplash tiles will cost an extra ₹30,000.
B. Living Room (Estimated Cost: ₹1,50,000 – ₹2,00,000)
This is where you entertain guests; it needs the "Wow" factor.
- TV Unit: A custom wall-to-wall TV unit with wooden paneling, floating shelves, and hidden LED lights (₹40,000 - ₹60,000).
- False Ceiling: Gypsum drop ceiling with cove lighting and spotlights (₹25,000 - ₹35,000).
- Furniture: A custom L-shape sofa (₹45,000), a center table (₹10,000), and a shoe rack at the entrance (₹15,000).
- Accent Wall: Wallpaper or Texture paint behind the sofa (₹10,000).
C. Master Bedroom (Estimated Cost: ₹1,30,000 – ₹1,70,000)
- Wardrobe: A large 7x7 ft Sliding Wardrobe with Laminate/Mirror finish (₹65,000 - ₹85,000).
- Bed: A Queen/King size bed with hydraulic storage and a plush cushioned headboard (₹45,000 - ₹55,000).
- Dressing Unit/Side Tables: A dedicated mirror unit with drawers and two side tables (₹20,000).
D. Guest / Kids Bedroom (Estimated Cost: ₹1,00,000 – ₹1,40,000)
- Wardrobe: Standard openable (hinged) door wardrobe (₹50,000).
- Bed: Standard storage bed (₹35,000).
- Study Table: A custom study desk with overhead bookshelves (₹25,000).
E. Painting & Polishing (Estimated Cost: ₹50,000 – ₹70,000)
The builder usually gives the flat with a basic coat of white distemper. You will need to apply 2 coats of Putty, 1 coat of Primer, and 2 coats of Premium Washable Emulsion (like Asian Paints Royale) across the entire 2BHK.
F. Electricals & Lighting (Estimated Cost: ₹40,000)
This includes buying fancy chandeliers, LED strip lights for the ceiling, profile lights for the wardrobes, extra plug points, and ceiling fans (Atomberg/Havells).
G. Bathroom Upgrades (Estimated Cost: ₹30,000)
Most builders provide basic bathrooms. Adding a glass shower partition, a mirror cabinet, an under-sink vanity unit, and geysers will cost around ₹15,000 per bathroom.
3. Total Estimated Budget
If we add up the Standard/Premium items above, the total comes to around ₹6.5 Lakhs to ₹8.5 Lakhs.
4. Hidden Costs to Watch Out For
When comparing quotes from different interior designers, make sure you check if these items are included:
- Deep Cleaning: Post-renovation cleaning is tough. Professional cleaning costs ₹5,000.
- Curtains and Blinds: Custom blackout curtains for a 2BHK can easily cost ₹25,000 to ₹40,000.
- Civil Changes: If you ask the designer to break a wall to make the living room bigger, or shift a bathroom door, civil work and debris removal will add ₹50,000+ to your bill.
- Designer Fees: Some designers charge an additional 10% to 15% design fee on top of the material cost. (At AMS Civil, if you take a Turnkey package, our 3D design fees are usually waived/adjusted!)
Conclusion
Getting your home interiors done is a massive undertaking. Do not fall for "₹2.5 Lakh Full Home Interior" ads on social media—they use cheap particle board that rots in 2 years and completely omit lighting and painting from their quotes.
